  • OVERVIEW

The new cellular, web-enabled HOBO® MicroRX station is partnered with Onset’s own water level sensor to deliver water level and flow monitoring data to LI-COR’s Cloud IoT platform

The HOBO MicroRX Water Level Station is a cellular, web-enabled water level monitoring solution for stormwater, floodwater, irrigation, hydrologic, and environmental applications. Pre-programmed water flow formulas for select weirs, flumes, and a stage discharge table result in an easy and intuitive configuration.

New water flow and accumulated rainfall calculations, which are performed directly on the station at time of measurement, trigger immediate notifications of critical water level conditions.

The compact and durable station, together with the non-vented water level sensor, enables harsh condition deployments and reliable monitoring. The optional integrated solar panel or battery power, with a wide range of plug-and-play smart sensors, supports flexible environmental monitoring.

Spend more time focusing on results, and less time on configuration and data access.

    Key Advantages:

    • Eliminate complicated manual calculations with pre-programmed water flow formulas
    • Act quickly in response to alarms triggered at time of measurement for water flow and accumulated rainfall
    • Reduce maintenance visits with the non-vented water level sensor
    • Deploy in harsh conditions with the tough, compact station
    • Monitor multiple environmental parameters with the flexibility of Onset’s suite of smart sensors

    Reliable Water Level Monitoring

With a tough, compact station and a reliable water level sensor, you can monitor water level in the harshest conditions.

    Highlighted Features

    • Station-side alarms for water flow and accumulated rainfall triggered at time of measurement
    • Non-vented ceramic water level sensor with a choice of four ranges
    • Interchangeable, Kevlar-reinforced water level sensor cables
    • Integrated barometric pressure sensor
    • Compact IP66/NEMA 4X enclosure
    • Built-in LCD confirms proper setup and operation
    • Two power options:
      • Integrated 1.7 W solar panel with rechargeable battery pack
        • 5 W and 15 W external solar panels can be added (RX2104 only)
      • User-replaceable AA lithium batteries
    • Inputs for five plug-and-play smart sensors
    • Up to 10-minute connections rates via 4G cellular data plans
    • Monitoring and data access through LI-COR Cloud IoT platform (formerly HOBOlink)

    Applications

    • Stormwater Monitoring: Supports requirements for federal and state industrial permits, on-site inspections, and wetlands monitoring.
    • Floodwater Mitigation: Provides an alert system for potential flooding situations from storm events and high water levels.
    • Irrigation Control: Delivers accurate water usage data for conservation, water use records, and water rights issues.
    • Hydrological Studies: Monitors surface water systems and aquifers to support water quality and environmental studies.

Environmental Protection 2020 New Product of the Year

Environmental Protection online has honored Onset’s HOBO MicroRX Water Level Station as the 2020 New Product of the Year Award winner in the stormwater category. The HOBO MicroRX delivers water level and flow monitoring data to LI-COR’s Cloud IoT platform and lets the user spend more time focusing on results, and less time on configuration and data access.

  • LI-COR CLOUD (formerly HOBOLINK)

A web-enabled software for Remote Monitoring and HOBOnet Field Monitoring Systems.

  • FAQ'S

If you have a question that’s not listed below, contact our Data Logging Specialists, who will be happy to help you!

In what environment does this data logger operate?

This data logger operates in an underwater environment.

What measurements does this data logger support?

The RX2100-WL data logger supports the following measurements: Absolute Pressure, Barometric Pressure, Evapotranspiration, Leaf Wetness, Light Intensity, PAR, Pulse Input, Rainfall, Relative Humidity, Soil Moisture, Temperature, Water Level and Wind

Can I calculate water flow using the HOBO MicroRX Water Level Station?

Yes, the station is configured with pre-installed calculations for V-notch weirs, general flumes (e.g. Parshall, Ramp, and Cutthroat), and a stage-discharge table.

    What alarms are available?

The MicroRX Water Level Station has alarms that trigger for accumulated rainfall and water level/flow at time of measurement.

Can I have more than one accumulated rainfall alarm programmed at the same time?

The RX2100 can only have one accumulated rainfall alarm set up at a time.

Can my data be exported to any hydrology software?

Yes, data can already be used with Network for Environment and Weather Applications (NEWA), DataWise, and the Florida Automated Weather Network (FAWN). Integration with Aquarius is coming soon.

How should I mount the water level sensor?

There are multiple ways to mount the water level sensor.

    • Suspend the sensor in a 2” well with a dedicated Onset well cap
    • Suspend the sensor in larger wells with a reducer to Onset’s well cap, or your own well cap.
    • If mounting in a storm sewer, use a PVC pipe with holes and one end resting on the bottom of the catchment and the top secured to the side of the catchment access.

Do I need a well cap?

A well cap will protect your water level sensor from rainfall and debris. It is uniquely designed to keep the water level sensor cable securely in place, which is especially helpful when using longer cables.

Why would I need an additional solar panel if I choose the integrated solar MicroRX Water Level Station?

You may want an additional solar panel to boost power to ensure connectivity at the maximum 10-minute rate. It may also be a good option if your station is not deployed in full sun.
